When ST Dupont Master-craftsmen started the production of the legendary Taj Mahal pens, the initial plan was to make 2000 pens. However the production plans got reduced to only 1000 Limited Edition pieces. By this time, over 1000 barrels were already made and found their ways into the assembly line. The decision was then made to finish these pens and distribute the surplus as a Special Edition only in France. The exact figure is unknown but estimated about 200-300 pens were issued. They are exactly the same size and texture as their Limited Edition Counterparts with the exeption of the mother-of-pearl inlays on the grip part and an alpinite stone in the clip. The packaging is the standard ST Dupont red box.
